In 2004, Gordon Halloran was officially invited to represent Canada at the Cultural Olympiad of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Italy, as an 'homage to Canada' with an installation of his creation, the ice painting.

The exhibition has been named in honour of the host country: Pitture Sotto Zero/Paintings Below Zero
